Alix - Profile

Population: 782

Alix is located 68 km. (41 miles) east of Red Deer, and 190 km. (119 miles) south of Edmonton. It is situated in a farming area that is noted as having the finest black loam soil in the west.

Historically, the settlement was started on the homestead of a settler named Joseph Todd, so the hamlet was originally called Toddsville. Later, when the Canadian Pacific Railway came through in 1905, Sir William Van Horne, then president of the C.P.R., changed the name to Alx. He chose the name Alix after the first woman settler in the district - a Mrs. Alexia Westland.

Present day Alix offers visitors recreational activities such as fishing, swimming and boating on Alix Lake, The village has a 9 hole golf course, a full sized arena, and a curling rink.

It holds an annual Fair and Parade every August, and the local Light Horse Association holds numerous gymkhanas and horse shows.
