Ma-Me-O Beach - Profile
Ma-Me-O Beach was first developed as a Summer Village in 1924. It is located at the south end of Pigeon lake and can be reached from Edmonton by taking Hwy. 2 south for 68 km. to Hwy. 13, and then travelling west to the south end of the lake. It is believed that the lake was named after the numerous Passenger Pigeons which once populated the area.
Within close proximity to Ma-Me-O Beach you will find campgrounds, picnic areas, a day-use Provincial Park and golf courses. In winter, there is room aplenty for snowmobiling, skiing, and ice fishing, etc.
For boating enthusiasts, Pigeon Lake has approximately 120 square km. of crystal waters surrounded by sun-drenched beaches, attractive, well-treed campsites, and trailer and mobile home parks. Pigeon Lake is also well-known for its sport fishing, in particular, for Northern Pike, and Lake Whitefish.
If you are staying several days in the area, be sure to explore the Pigeon Lake Provincial Park's nature trails on the west side of the lake and discover the Aspen Parkland forest. Don't forget to bring your camera and binoculars!
