Adjacent to Jasper National Park's east boundary, the Alberta Coal Branch is situated in the east slopes of the Rocky Mountains. The area has a long and colourful history that now offers a diverse range of recreational opportunities.
Rail was the only access to the area that once supported a population of thousands. Although the coal and forest industries that brought them here are still very active on "The Branch", a population of only a few hundred remain south of the major centres of Hinton and Edson.
The Alberta Coal Branch Club organises The Coal Branch Reunions, (the next scheduled reunion is to be held August 1, in the year 2000) and draws thousands back to the area once again.
