The Black Cat Ranch is an ideal location for those who are interested in hiking. We have many kilometers of marked hiking trails starting from the lodge and heading into the hills and mountains surrounding the ranch. We can offer anything from easy 1/2 hour strolls to moderately demanding day hikes. We can provide guides on request. If you are interested in some longer hikes, we can recommend some excellent locations in the Jasper region.
Check out our Day Hikes page for more information on hiking options while staying at the Black Cat.

SUMMER 2008
Spcial Fossil Hike with Ben Gadd
(Farmer's Valley - Whitehorse Creek Wildland Park
Join us on Wednesday July 23 for a guided hike with Jasper naturalist Ben Gadd. We will drive to the trail head located at the Whitehorse Creek campground west of Cadomin.
From the trail head, we will hike a short distance up Whitehorse Creek, enjoying the many small waterfalls along the way and watching for the rare Harlequin ducks that live in the swift water of the creek.
We will then turn north and begin a slow climb up into Farmer's Valley, a hanging valley that once was the site of a limestone quarry. After investigating the relics at the quarry, we will continue towards our goal, the large cirque surrounded by Mount Leland and Luscar Mountain. This high valley has many interesting fossils and spectacular scenery.
We will then return to the trail head, and drive back to Cadomin for pie and coffee at the Hole-in-the-wall Cafe, before heading back home.
This full day hike (including packed lunch) is $45 per person. Transportation is not provided. Minimum 4 people required for this hike. Reservation required. Taxes extra.
