For a weekend away from it all, why not really get away from it all and become a totally different person? At a Black Cat murder mystery weekend, you get to be someone else, perhaps even a murderer, or at least a suspect. After more than 15 years, our mysteries are more popular than ever.
All guests are assigned a role to play. The plot unfolds over the course of two days, ending with a wrap-up session in which solutions are proposed, fun awards are given out and the truth is revealed. Plenty of time-out for recreation and relaxation is provided.
Participants are sent a character profile before the mystery so they'll know who they are to play, how to dress and what props might be required.
In addition to our regular scheduled mysteries, held 2 or 3 times a year, you can book a mystery at the Black Cat Ranch for groups of 24 - 32 for any available 2 day period. Mysteries can also be held at other locations.
All Black Cat mysteries are written in-house by Amber Hayward. Amber is an internationally published author who somehow finds time to write despite the demands of managing the Black Cat.
Scheduled Mysteries
We don't have any mysteries scheduled at this time. Please contact us if you have a group that would be interested in a mystery.
If you have a group of 24 or more who would like to participate in a mystery on a date of your choice, please contact us.
At present we have 17 exciting plots for you to choose from:
HOMICIDE ON THE RANGE
A Western Heritage mystery. Set in the 1950's, this plot features the cast of a cowboy movie who are staying at a posh mountain lodge. Who is that stunning blonde actress? Who is that shady character lurking in the spruce trees?
This is Amber's newest plot.
BLINDED BY SCIENCE
At a convention of inventors and mad scientists anything can (and probably will) happen. This plot requires more preparation by the participants than many of our mysteries, but it's also one of the most enjoyable.
WHEEL OF FATE
On a Mississippi river boat, a colorful collection of Old West characters gather for gambling, mayhem and possibly murder.
A WEDDING IN BLACK
First performed at the Black Cat as an actual wedding, this mystery is a classic Agatha Christie-style manor house mystery.
VEGAS VEGAS
Gambling, weddings, divorces, show-girls, murder, conventions, and more gambling.
SHALL WE GATHER AT THE GRAVESIDE?
At this family reunion, everyone has a skeleton in the closet and a strong motive to keep their secret from being revealed.
CLASS OF '65
Was the classmate voted most likely to succeed also the most likely to murder?
ROCK 'TIL YOU DROP
For the musically inclined, this mystery features the making of a benefit video, with a little murder on the side.
BURIAL AT SEA
Enjoy all the pleasures of an ocean cruise, including a masquerade ball, sea sickness and possibly a man overboard.
WBCR ON THE AIR
In this wacky radio station crew, who will be the first to "sign off" permanently?
"CUT!"
How do you scream for help in a silent movie?
STAND UP AND DIE
You'll die laughing in the comedy club mystery.
DEATH IN THE CARDS
A Psychic Fair where not everyone can predict the future.
A VINTAGE DEATH
Things turn a little sour at the family winery.
BCER
In a small town emergency room, a diverse cast of characters are in for some bad medicine, bad politics, and a healthy dose of murder.
BLACKENED VOODOO GUMBO DEATH
Join the motley crew attending the masquerade to consult Madame LaRue. She knows all - even the hour of your death.
PAMPERED TO DEATH
Is that person on the massage table just very relaxed.... or dead? This is one of Amber's newer plots and combines a Mystery with our ever popular Spa Weekends.
