About the Word "Mineral"

The word "mineral" can be confusing. All through the legislation and in the MTO (Mineral Titles Online) system, it can refer to...
  • Hard-rock mining as opposed to placer mining - for example, on the MTO (Mineral Titles Online) page, there is a button for "Mineral Map" and a button for "Placer Map"
  • Rock or metal that can be mined (with a few exceptions, like fossils and gravel for roads) - for example, in the names: "Mineral Titles Online" and "Mineral Tenure Act", the word refers to both hard rock minerals and placer minerals.
