Pope Clement XI, bull of Holy Thursday, proclaimed excommunication against all heretics, schismatic pagans, Mediterranean pirates and all who did not render the Holy Father obedience or pay him their taxes when due.  The proclamation of the Church reaffirmed the power of Church over state.  It supported Pope Pious V Bull of 1568, that stated this bull was to remain an eternal law in Christendom.  Pope after Pope, from 1372 to 1774, confirmed this Bull, providing the bases for the Inquisition.

New France complained that the Church was so bold as to substantially add new gratuities and gifts, on any and all pretexts, to the extent that the larger part of the fixed budget of Canada is in the form of these gratuities and gifts.  This is in response to the French King's claim that New France costs the King more than it profits him.

Drought hit the St. Lawrence River Valley this year.

The Naranicouk Savages in Nova Scotia have allowed the English to establish forts, three of which are of stone, in the lower part of their river.

Drought again hit the St. Lawrence River Valley causing much hardship to those who cultivate the land.

Marie Jeanne Renaud Desmeloizes b-1699 was betrothed by her grandfather and guardian to a man that she did not wish to marry. The grandfather was infuriated so he gave a large portion of her estate to the intended groom.   The Quebec's lower court agreed she had been unjustly disinherited.  It is noteworthy that this applied only to legitimate children; illegitimate children had no claim on the estate of their natural parents.  New France also adopted the European convention that it was acceptable to occasionally beat his wife and children providing it was not violent and extreme.  Wives could obtain a legal separation but children had no rights.  Parents had a legal right to approve the choice of their child's marriage partner until age 25 and a social right there after.
