The news reaches London that Quebec has fallen, and the people rejoice for days.
The French view the loss of Quebec as one less problem for France.

Over the winter, famine griped New France, with daily rations of two ounces of horsemeat, until relief arrived in May from France.

Fort Carillon, Quebec is built this year.

The Deportation of Acadians from Ile St-Jean (Prince Edward Island) took place. These Acadians were deported to France.  It is however interesting to note that some Acadians escaped the Deportation on Ile St-Jean by escaping to Malpèque. The British did not realize they were in hiding in that place and they were never deported. Some of these families are those who would later become the founders of Tignish. The families consisted of Arsenault, Bernard, Chiasson, DesRoches, Doucet, Gaudet, Poirier and Richard.

The Acadians are prohibited by the British from owning land and are stripped of any civil or political rights.  Some Acadians didn't get the right to vote until 1830.

The answer to the request for 4,000 troops for Canada will not come until spring when the St. Lawrence River breaks up.  France replied by saying:  One does not try to save the stables when the house is on fire.  France had only sent 400 men and few munitions.  The Quebec citizens are being removed to safety, especially those on the East shores of the St. Lawrence River.

The French deploy 15,000 men, including old men and boys; some as young as 12 years, about ten miles from the north river frontage.  The British have sent 200 ships and a quarter of the British navy against the French and Canadians.  Included are 9,000 soldiers and 18,000 sailors, more than the total population of Quebec.  The line of ships stretches for 100 miles.

The French Armies greatly outnumber the British Army, but the French commanders decide to abandon Quebec rather than expend more lives- they say.  The Canadians call the French cowards, and the women stone the French soldiers.  About 1,300 men died or are wounded on the Plains of Abraham this day.  They are all buried in a common grave.

The British rename Ile de Saint Jean (Prince Edward Island) to St. John's Island.

Francois Marie Arouet (Voltaire) (1694-1778) of France called Quebec a few acres of snow and believed that Quebec was not worth one drop of French blood.
