Fred Garneau living about 1840 Dawson Creek, source Western Canadians 1600-1900.
1840 LA POINTE, WISCONSIN (it would appear we have three Joseph Gurnoe's)
Joseph D. Gurnoe also Gorno and Gornou born 1819 (1812) La Pointe, Wisconsin, died March 18, 1890 or 1910 Bayfield, Wisconsin. Lac Courte Oreille allotted No. 629 (13) the son of Louis Gurnoe born 1790 and Se-Ranze born 1800.
Married July 15, 1840 (about 1837) Charlotte LaGuard (LaGarde), born 1813, La Pointe, Wisconsin died June 1 (5), 1898 Red Cliff, Bayfield, Wisconsin allotted No. 69, Probate No. 53004-19. Charlotte acquired N 1/2 SE 4 S3 - T51 R5 W/4 80 acres and a lot in Bayfield according to July 28, 1871 County Court records that suggests an 1871 divorce. August 25, 1871 Joseph also bought a lot in Bayfield, Wisconsin. In the 1850 census they claim a birth year of 1829 for Joseph and 1825 for Charlotte that is an obvious error or it represents another couple. 1812 birth date probably applies to Joseph Kuisnpau Garneau. September 30, 1854 application for S1/2 SE 1/4 Sec 36 T 51 R3W situated within the boundary lines of Red Cliff Reservation. Chief John Buffalo July 15, 1876 supports Joseph's claim for S 1/2 SE 1/4 Sec 36 T 51 R3 W for service rendered to the Red Cliff Band and the Chippewa Tribe in general.
A second marriage recorded about 1871 to a Theresa Corbine born 1847 or 1849 of Lac Courte Oreilles died April 30, 1909 daughter of Louis Corbine Sr, and Catherine Roy. Carole S. Fizell-Cadotte-Gordon, Ashland, Wisconsin claims married prior to 1872 and separated by Indian custom about 1878 and that provides some conflicting dates. Sources are census 1850 #26-26 and Bureau of Indian Affairs records for Red Cliff, Bayfield, Wisconsin. Two Joseph Gurnoe's are listed in 1839, age 43 and 23 in the list of Mixed blood Chippewa of Lake Superior, claimant for payment according to the Treaty of 1837. Elizabeth, Samual and John listed 1850 as children over four and under 18 in district of Sault Ste Marie. I think this 2nd marriage claim belongs to another Joseph?
ELEVEN CHILDREN ARE RECORDED
(some dates are suspect & may represent two families)
Elisabeth Gorno born 1838 died September 15, 1870 La Pointe, Wisconsin married Alexis Carpenthier one child born May died November 13, 1867 La Pointe, Wisconsin. Death records at La Pointe, Wisconsin lists mother as Charlotte LaGarde and father Joseph Gorno. Also see Elisabeth born 1833, 1835 or 1841.
John (Jean) Baptiste Gurnoe born 1840, died 1875 and married about 1856 Mary Ka-Ka-Be (Kakabishe).
Samuel Gurnoe born 1840 or 1844 died 1880 son Joseph Gurnoe and Mary b-1824 of Sugar Island and married about 1860 to Angelique DeJadon (Artischoe) and had one child by 1861 census yet report of heirship 1898 suggests unnamed (f) child recently born? This suggests the Heirship report for 1898 dated June 18, 1918 is probably made out not from a consistent base line when stating descendent ages.
Virginia Gurnoe also Gorno and Gornou born 1847 died 1883 (September 1881) La Pointe, Wisconsin and married Robert Couture son Joseph Couture and Mary Tchetchignais; one child Josephus born 1867 died April 11, 1868, one Angelica born & died 1880 both at La Pointe, Wisconsin.
Charles Gurnoe is born 1849. He is not listed as Charlotte child therefore must be by another Joseph Gurnoe or belongs to Josephus Gournon.

Josephus (Joseph) Gournon also Gorno born 1817 LaPointe, Wisconsin son Joseph Gurnoe born 1795;
Married July 15, 1840 St. Joseph, La Pointe, Wisconsin a Caroline LaGarde (Shanud?) born 1824 Fond du Lac baptised July 15, 1840 La Pointe, Wisconsin died June 5, 1898
Daughter Jean Baptiste LaGarde and Ichkwedjigan, the couple now lives La Pointe, Wisconsin. Source St. Joseph Mission records, census records and script records.
Some contend: Divorced 1863 and entered into a second marriage about 1861 Angelique Gorneau having a daughter Angelica Gourneau born May 1862 who died February 25, 1863.
A third marriage before 1870 Theresa Corbine of Lac Courte daughter Louis Corbine Sr. and Catherine Roy.
FOUR CHILDREN ARE RECORDED:
John Baptiste Gournon born November 8, 1838 Isle Royale baptised August 11, 1839 La Pointe, Wisconsin died 1875 son Josephus Gournon and Carolina LaGarde. Married 1860 Mary Kakabishe, married 1872 Emily Lemieux, married 1876? Bitawanigokwe (or Maria Abitawejibikokwe married June 3, 1860). 1872 marriage probably applies to another John?? A John Baptiste Gournon died November 10, 1875 La Pointe, Wisconsin.
Elizabeth (Lesitte or Lizzie) Gournon born April 11, 1841 La Pointe, Wisconsin (or 1833?), baptised May 9, 1841 La Pointe, Wisconsin died 1878 and married a Frenchman George Beauclier (Beauclere) and one child recorded George B. Gurnoe born 1849. Documents do not resolve date conflict however baptism record at La Pointe states parents of Elizabeth Gournon born 1841 is Josephus Gournon and Carolina LaGarde and not Joseph D. Gurnoe and Charlotte LaGarde as other records suggest. 2nd marriage claimed 1864 (Elizabeth Gorno) married January 24, 1864 to Alexander Carpentier and 3rd about 1865 to a John Willard. It would appear unlikely that George B. Gurnoe is the son of eight year old Elisabeth?? There appears to be four Elizabeth's, who are born 1833, 1835, 1838 and 1841.
Charles Gorno born September died October 1, 1861 La Pointe, Wisconsin son Charles and Charlotte Lagarde

1845 CANADA
(7)-Louis Goudreau born 1824
Married about 1845 a Sophie Woel born 1828. (Source, Ancestral File, Mormon). Theresa Schenck suggests based on the Detroit baptize records that (6)-Louis Gurnoe marriage to (V)-Archange Cadotte must have taken place about 1824. If true then this could be their first son?
