GENEALOGY POTPOURRI

During the period from about 1700 to 1880 as the Garneau's moved out of Quebec and spread across Canada a number of strange spellings of Garneau are recorded, Gurneau was used in Edmonton, Gourneau was used in Red River, Pembina and Turtle Mountain, Gurnoe and Goudreau was used in Sault Ste. Marie during and after the mixed blood treaty settlement.  In Ontario the name was recorded as Garnow.

As a further example a Louis Goudreau during his life time in Red River was recorded as Gredreau, Godreau, Gaudron .  This missing link period contains some of the most bazaar spellings and to ensure that all possibilities are covered this genealogy potpourri section contains both official lineages which could be confused with Garneau and records which could belong to any linage.
