The Munro clan are vassals of the Earl of Ross and their lands lie along
the north shore of the Cromarty Firth in the area known as Ferindonald (Donald's
Land). Covering the modern parishes of Kiltearn and Alness. They
were vassels of the Earls of Ross.
Malcolm II under King James VI the military jurisdiction of Foelis
for services rendered is given to Donald Munro (1025) and his descendents.

The first Baronet is Sir Hector Munro the 22 baron of Fowlis who is conferred June 7, 1634 for service of Gustavus Adolphus in Germany. He married Katherine daughter Sir Kenneth Mackenzie of Kintail and 2nd marriage Katherine widow Donald MacDonald of Slate.

(I)-John William Monrow (Monroe) died 1717 and (I)-Hugh Monrow (Monroe) departed London as prisoners of war aboard the John & Sarah Worchester November 11, 1651 being consigned as indentured (slaves) to Thomas Kemble of Boston, Rhode Island. They were likely resold for a profit. The prisoners were four to a house with enough land to sustain themselves. When their sales value, transportation and other costs were recovered by their labor they became freemen.
