He joined the Northwest Company about 1891. Old man Sayer's sons (Pierre Guillaume is the one who moved west according to Heather) moved west of Sault Ste Marie according to treaty of 1854 records.

Genealogy of First Metis Nation suggests Joseph is the son of William born 1796. See 1875, this appears to be a fabrication and Joseph is the son of Pierre.

The trial resulted in the metis proclaiming liberty and free trade breaking the Hudson Bay Company monopoly for all times. Listed as Bowsman and Steersman with Hudson Bay Company 1828 to 1832.

Source Louis Riel collected writings U o A press 1985 p-341. It would appear that Pierre adopted William's children upon his death in 1855. See 1815.
