The Shu Genealogy has been removed at the request of some members of the family. Chinese culture is rich in customs, traditions and superstitions. Genealogy has no value without dates.
The primary fear is that disclosure of dates, especially birth and marriage can result in bad luck and evil spirits. The request therefore was to remove dates.
Chinese tradition suggests "one's birth date and time must not be revealed lest it reaches the ears of evil spirits".
"one's birth date determines one's fate"
The second tradition is that the Shu family does not create genealogy records because of the primary fear.
However "The very kernal of the Chinese culture is Genealogy and lineage"
"Lineage of couples in marriage is very important, and the couples date
of birth is used to determine a suitable wedding" Not only is it used to
determine the wedding date but to determine couple compatibility..
The third reason stated is a modern fear of identity theft.
