Doris was a great Mom, friend and my poodle partner; she had a great love for her family, her poodles and her afghan hounds. Every day I think about her and how much I miss talking to her about our dogs and our lives.

Doris and her husband Jim were actively involved with the Tyee Kennel Club, Cowichan Dog Obedience Training Club and the Vancouver Island Afghan Hound Association for over 30 years.  She was well known as a breeder of Afghan hounds and Standard poodles under the Swiftwind banner.

Doris was born in Wadena, Saskatchewan.  She was the daughter of Arnaud and Mary Maas and grew up in Nut Mountain Saskatchewan, she was pre deceased by her brothers Harold and Ted and her sister Nellie. Her sister Verna lives in Saskatoon. She married James Howard Deptuch on August 14, 1954 in Saskatoon.  They relocated with their 4 children to Duncan, BC in 1967.

The most important thing in life for Doris was her family. Her unique outlook made each person feel special. Whether relative, in-law or friend, Doris had an unconditional love for all. Each of us in that extended family will miss her greatly.
