After leaving university I continued living in the Toronto area and worked at a variety of jobs...deliveryman, industrial temp, and finally as a security guard supervisor. Finding the work enjoyable, I began to consider a career in the police (and at 26 years of age, I was overdue for a job with a future) and applied to the Calgary Police Service, who were recruiting across Canada at the time. I was accepted by the CPS and after moving to Calgary completed my rookie training with good standing. On the street however, I discovered that I was not prepared in many ways for the things my duties demanded of me , and so my police days were over less than a year after they began. I immediately went to work for the Alberta Government Telephone company (later privatized and renamed TELUS Communications)(please see disclaimer) and remained there until the end off 2003. when I accepted a voluntary separation package and threw my life into the sea of fate. Since then I have experienced the damnest series of coincidences and happenstance that appears to be leading back into a career with the Calgary police. Stay tuned for news on this front...
During this time Beth and I had two daughters (Meg, born in 1984; Katie, born in 1988). Here is a photo of them in their SCA garb. Beth and I divorced in 1994; the girls remained with their mother, still living in Calgary. I have since remarried, to Jessica (originally of Montreal) who works as a portfolio officer in the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.
Jessica and I continue to live in Calgary, where we keep house with two purebred cats. (Warning... colour JPGs ahead...~200K)
At the end of 2003 I accepted a voluntary separation package from TELUS and threw my life into the sea of fate, thinking that I have time in my life for a few new changes and adventures. Since then I have perceived and experienced the damnest series of coincidences and happenstance that appears to be leading back into a career with the Calgary police. Some of these coincidences and happenstance go back several years to have current consequences at which I could never have guessed. Stay tuned for news on this front...the adventure continues.
